| What is a cataract?
A
cataract is the “clouding” of the
lens in your eye. As light passes through the
cataractous lens, it is diffused, or scattered.
The result is blurred or defocused vision.
A
cataract can progress until eventually there
is a complete loss of vision in your eye, and
neither diet nor laser treatment will make a
cataract go away. However, cataract surgery
can help restore your vision, long before you
experience loss of vision significant enough
to interfere with your daily activities. It
is also one of the safest, effective and most
successful types of surgery.
Surgery Options
After you have
decided that you will have cataract surgery,
your doctor will measure your eye to determine
the proper power of the IOL (the artificial
intraocular lens that will be implanted in your
eye)
There
are two basic types of IOLs, each designed for
a specific corrective function. Monofocal lenses
(provides patients with only one focal point-
usually distance), while multifocal lenses are
designed to correct a range of vision –
near through distance.
The
surgeons of Florida Vision Institute are certified
to implant all of the latest ocular lenses.
A great deal of time is spent with each patient
in order to decide which lens implant suits
them most. Whether you drive often, love to
read, or play golf, Florida Vision Institute
tailors their lenses to fit your unique lifestyle.
